REAL - LIFE
These vignettes from our clients illustrate what we at Bloomfield Associates can do to assess your situation, design a specific plan of action with you, and work collaboratively with you to get powerful results.
The Plant Manager:
When he was hired into the organization from the outside to run a major operating facility, this new executive faced
some big challenges: outdated machinery that was prone to debilitating breakdowns, an aging and dispirited workforce, several key vacancies on his management team, inadequate capital investment in the plant, and an overall lack of direction. He knew he could handle the technical aspects of the job, but realized that to successfully meet these leadership challenges, he would need to work on the "soft skills" as well.
We focused on coaching him to set clear goals and priorities, improve his communication skills, and engage in powerful conversations with his leadership team. He successfully made the transition to his new leadership position, built a high-performing team, developed more effective management skills, and worked to align his people and programs with his vision and the organization's mission.
He implemented several large-scale change initiatives simultaneously, saving close to $70 million as a result. He went on to win approval for his ambitious strategic plan, along with the capital funding required to ensure a turnaround in the plant's long-term performance.
The Senior VP:
This key executive with a nationally-known firm was
overwhelmed with unceasing demands from clients, constant critiques from upper management, a staff in need of extensive development, and a continuing crisis in her family's life. She knew that people saw her as disorganized and unfocused, and she herself felt that things were spinning out of control.
When the economy took a nosedive and her overworked staff was cut back even further, the burden on her grew
even heavier. Our coaching dealt up front with helping her to step back and look with fresh eyes at the whole picture, and get clear about her priorities. We worked with her to improve her organization and time management skills, solicit and take on board some tough but invaluable feedback, and enlist the support she needed to handle her multiple roles with grace.
The challenges are still tough, but she is now dealing with
them in a more measured and effective way, and the right people - including some important clients -- are noticing.
